Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information MySecureOS collects, why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have. Because MySecureOS is a life-safety service, some of this information — your location in particular — is used to send help to you in an emergency.
Last updated: 31 July 2026
01Who we are
MySecureOS operates a personal-safety platform: 4G panic buttons, a mobile app, and a 24/7 control room that coordinates armed response and medical assistance. In this policy “we”, “us” and “MySecureOS” refer to the operator of the mysecureos.co.za platform. If a security company provides MySecureOS to you under their own brand, they are a joint controller of your information for that service.
02Information we collect
We collect only what the service needs to keep you safe and to run your account:
- Account details — your name, mobile number and email address.
- Location — your GPS position when you raise a panic, during a monitored trip, and (with your permission) in the background so help can find you even if the app is not open.
- Emergency contacts — the names and phone numbers of people you choose to notify when you raise an alert.
- Device information — from a linked panic button: battery level, signal, and status reports; from your phone: a push-notification token so we can alert you.
- Profile photo — an optional picture you add, shown to the control room so responders can identify you.
- Emergency history — a record of the alerts you raise and how they were handled, kept as an audit trail.
- Payment information — when you subscribe or buy a device, our payment provider processes the payment. We do not store your card details.
03How we use your information
- To dispatch armed response and medical help to your location in an emergency.
- To watch over monitored trips and escalate automatically if you don’t arrive.
- To notify your emergency contacts and give them a live tracking link.
- To send you verification codes, alerts, and service messages.
- To create and manage your account and any subscription.
- To keep an audit trail of emergencies for quality, safety and dispute resolution.
04Who we share it with
We share your information only with the parties needed to deliver the service, never for advertising:
- Armed-response partners (e.g. AURA) — when the control room dispatches to you, your name, location and the nature of the emergency are shared with the responding unit.
- Your emergency contacts — the people you nominate receive an alert and a live tracking link when you raise an emergency.
- PayFast — our payment gateway, to process subscriptions and purchases securely.
- SMS & push providers — to deliver verification codes and notifications (SMS gateway, and Apple/Google push services).
- Mapping — OpenStreetMap to display your position on a map.
- The security company that provides MySecureOS to you, if applicable, and law-enforcement or emergency services when needed to respond to an incident or where required by law.
05Location data
Location is the heart of the service. The app requests “While Using” location to place you on the map when you raise a panic, and “Always / Background” location so that an emergency you trigger — or an overdue trip — can still be located when the app is closed or your phone is in your pocket. You can turn location permissions off in your device settings at any time, but the core safety features will not work without it.
06Payments
Subscriptions and device purchases are processed by PayFast, a licensed South African payment provider. Your card or banking details are entered on PayFast’s secure systems and are never stored by MySecureOS. We keep only a record of what you bought and its payment status.
07How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. Emergency and location records are retained as a safety audit trail and then deleted or anonymised in line with our retention schedule and any legal obligations. Device telemetry (battery, signal) is kept only for a limited period to support the fleet.
08How we protect it
Data is transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections, sensitive fields are encrypted at rest, and access is limited to authorised control-room and administrative staff. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the protection of safety data seriously.
09Your rights (POPIA)
Under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) you may request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to certain processing, or withdraw a consent you gave. To exercise any of these rights, email us at contact@mysecureos.co.za. Deleting information that is essential to the safety service may mean we can no longer provide it to you.
10Children
Families use MySecureOS to protect children. Where an account is for a minor, it must be set up and managed by a parent or guardian, who consents to this policy on the child’s behalf.
11Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email.
